Why do thousands of stars die on GitHub? (And how RepoSkeleton aims to fix it)

Most popular GitHub repositories don't die because they're bad—they die because maintainers burn out.

We've all seen repos with thousands of stars and great code, but maintainers went MIA years ago. Multiple people create separate forks to fix issues, duplicating effort in silos.

I built RepoSkeleton to solve this:

  • Tracks dormant repos with high stars
  • Helps developers claim abandoned projects and coordinate revivals
  • Provides community badges for active maintainers

Built with FastAPI + Tailwind. Would love feedback from fellow open-source developers!
