Score an Amazon FBA wholesale list in one Python command (free, no dependencies)
Most Amazon wholesale price lists are 90% duds. The slow part of sourcing isn't finding products, it's doing the fee math on hundreds of rows to find the handful worth a closer look.
I wrote a small, dependency-free Python script that does that first pass: give it a CSV of candidate products and it estimates fees, profit and ROI for every row, then ranks them with a BUY / MAYBE / PASS verdict and a plain-English reason.
What it calculates per row
- Size tier (from weight and dimensions)
- Referral fee (by category)
- FBA fulfillment fee and an estimated monthly storage cost
- Net profit, ROI, margin and break-even price
- A verdict, with reasons like "ROI 27% < 30%" or "25 competing sellers"
Rows are sorted by profit times estimated monthly sales, so the top of the file is where your attention should go.
Quick start
It's pure Python 3.8+, standard library only.
git clone https://github.com/mcrbilly7/fba-triage-kit cd fba-triage-kit python fba_triage.py examples/sample_candidates.csv -o scored.csv # Scored 4 items: 1 BUY, 1 MAYBE, 2 PASS Your input needs these columns (headers are case-insensitive):
asin,title,sale_price,unit_cost,weight_lb,length_in,width_in,height_in,category Optional columns: inbound_per_unit, prep_per_unit, monthly_sales_est, competitors.
Tune the thresholds to your own rules:
python fba_triage.py my_list.csv --min-roi 30 --min-profit 3 -o scored.csv Sample output
| title | net_profit | roi_pct | verdict | reasons |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Silicone Baking Mat 2-pack | 7.07 | 172.4 | BUY | |
| Phone Stand Aluminum | 3.06 | 47.1 | MAYBE | 25 competing sellers |
| Yoga Mat 6mm | 2.46 | 27.3 | PASS | ROI 27% < 30%; profit < $3; large_bulky fees/storage risk |
| Kids Puzzle 100pc | -2.44 | -31.3 | PASS | negative ROI and profit |
Notice the yoga mat: it looks fine on gross margin, but the oversize fulfillment and storage costs eat most of it. That's exactly the kind of row this script is meant to catch early.
Keep the fees current
The built-in fee table holds approximate US estimates, and Amazon changes fees regularly. Export the table, edit it to match the current schedule, and pass it back in:
python fba_triage.py --dump-fees > fees.json python fba_triage.py my_list.csv --fees fees.json -o scored.csv This is a triage tool, not a guarantee of profit. Always confirm your finalists in Amazon's Revenue Calculator and check gating and brand restrictions before you buy inventory.
