My App Was Almost Ready Until I Tried Using It Like a Stranger

I tested my app so many times that I stopped noticing how confusing it was. I knew where every button was, which information belonged in each field, and what to do when something went wrong. Then I asked someone unfamiliar with the project to try it. They paused on the first screen and asked, “What am I supposed to do here?” That was uncomfortable because I had spent more time improving the design than explaining the product. I went back to Greta and started reworking the flow, focusing on what a first-time user would understand without my help. I simplified the opening screen, made the next step clearer, and removed a couple of options that were competing for attention. The changes weren’t particularly impressive from a technical perspective, but they made the experience easier to follow. That was a useful reminder for anyone using an AI app builder: getting a screen to work and getting someone to understand it are two different things. A prototype can look polished in a demo and still confuse actual users. Now, before I consider an early version finished, I try to watch someone use it without explaining anything. Their silence, hesitation, and questions often reveal more than another round of visual improvements.
