A graded English & Japanese ladder you can open and study today

Most language apps ask you to grind flashcards or wait for a model to finish transcribing something you pasted. I wanted the opposite: open a level, press play, and study line by line—with English and Japanese already graded, timed, and translated.

That is what LangScribe’s language learning ladder is for. LangScribe is a language-learning platform first. Subtitles and AI transcription still exist for DIY imports, but Discover’s ladder is a catalog of courses you can start without running a job.

Primary page: language learning ladder

What “ladder” means here

The ladder is level-ordered study material, not a random video dump:

  • English: CEFR-style path A1 → A2 → B1 → B2 → C1 (including series such as VOA Learning English)
  • Japanese: JLPT-style path N5 → N4 → N3 → N2 → N1

Catalog lessons are carefully pre-transcribed and aligned for study, then pre-translated into common native languages (Simplified/Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, German, French, Arabic, and more). They are not scraped YouTube auto-captions.

If you have ever bounced between a beginner YouTube playlist and a dictionary tab, the ladder’s point is boring on purpose: pick A2 or N4, stay there, and finish lessons with the same player every time. Progress feels measurable because the levels are named the way teachers already talk about them.

Same player as DIY imports

Ladder episodes use the same study surface as files you import yourself:

  • bilingual cues on the video
  • previous / next sentence, replay, A–B loops
  • click-to-look-up against that sentence
  • vocabulary cards that keep the original line
  • Study progress so you know what you already finished

That matters because the habit is the product. Whether the audio came from a graded VOA unit or a lecture you imported last night, the interaction should feel identical.

When you do want DIY material, you can still import a file or paste a link and optionally run AI transcription / translation. The ladder just removes that wait for the core English and Japanese paths. I use imports for niche topics; I use the ladder for the daily “what level am I on?” question.

How I choose an entrance

Goal Where to go
Graded path (e.g. VOA beginner, JLPT N5) Discover → Ladder → pick a level · open the ladder
A creator’s ready-made series Discover → Creators · or ready-made language learning videos
Pronunciation / shadowing loops on a line shadowing practice player
Your own lecture or recording Import → optional AI → then vocab review in context

I treat the ladder as the default daily path, and ready-made / shadowing / imports as side quests when I need a specific accent, topic, or classroom recording. Shadowing is especially useful after a ladder lesson: take one hard sentence, loop it, and only then move on.

A simple weekly rhythm

  1. Open the ladder at your current CEFR or JLPT band.
  2. Finish one catalog episode with sentence replay—not passive full-play.
  3. Mark unfamiliar words on the cards that still show the original sentence.
  4. If a line is hard to say, jump into shadowing for a few minutes.
  5. Once a week, optionally add a ready-made creator video on a topic you care about.

Nothing fancy—just a path that does not collapse into “I’ll transcribe something later.”

Pricing note for catalog lessons

Items published with ready captions and translations open for study without an extra transcription/translation fee for that episode. Playback, lookup, and free translation stay free. Credits apply when you run AI on files you import—not when you open a ladder lesson that is already prepared.

Why this framing (platform, not “subtitle tool”)

It is easy to describe LangScribe as “AI subtitles for video.” That undersells the Discover catalog. The ladder is the answer to: I know my CEFR/JLPT level—what do I press today? Graded English and Japanese courses, pre-aligned and pre-translated, in one player.

If that matches how you study, start at your level on the English & Japanese learning ladder (中文入口:语言学习阶梯).
